Steiner Storehouse is proud to offer Waldorf dolls which support a small village in the mountains of Peru, helping to improve the lives of many impoverished women and children.

It takes a whole village to create these beautiful, child-friendly dress up Waldorf dolls! Museum quality homespun fibers and fabrics reflect a wide variety of typical clothing and traditional skills of shepherding alpaca and sheep, carding, spinning, dyeing, weaving, knitting and embroidery. The combined qualities of imagination, color and therapeutic work contribute to the healing environment in this women's workshop located in the rural village of Andahuaylillas, Peru.

The communal life in the Cusqueno towns is found predominantly in the public areas of the church and the markets. These markets sell a wide variety of goods and food, and are often places of feverish activity.

This social work initiative, begun in early 2002, is situated in the rural highlands of the Andes Mountains in Peru.

These wonderfully handcrafted Waldorf dolls from Peru are among the most beautiful we have seen, and each one is unique.  Their hair is made of soft alpaca yarn, the cotton body is dyed with tea to create the warm skin color, and they are filled with wool that warms as they are held. The clothing is mostly made of hand woven wool bayeta cloth, and underclothes are cotton. The beautiful sweaters and shoes are knit of fine, soft alpaca yarns which have been hand spun and dyed.

In addition to the more conventional clothing that the dolls are wearing, we are pleased to offer sets of beautiful, traditional clothing for all of the dolls, and colorful bambinos (babies) that can be tied onto 14" dolls with hand woven mantas (shawls), just like the mothers in Peru do. 

 

 

Boy Dolls — 12 inches

Phillip, Pablo, and Pedro are awaiting new friends! Thier hair is made of soft, twisted alpaca yarn (it takes a whole day to make). Their arms and legs are fully-jointed, allowing him to sit and be positioned. Bodies are made from  all-natural cotton and filled with pure wool.

Girl Dolls — 12 inches

These warm and colorful little friends are dressed in bright wool jumpers embellished with a crocheted flower, crocheted alpaca hats with colored trim, and hand knit alpaca shoes and sweaters. Underneath it all each wears a blouse and bloomers. Their soft alpaca hair, tied with traditional multi-colored ties, is hand stitched to form two ponytails or braids.
